ELEVATOR RESCUE TRAINING AT THE FORMER MACY'S

 

8/29/2006- For Tuesday nights drill, units traveled once again to the former Macy's Department store at the Westfield Shopping Town for elevator rescue training.  Units were able to take advantage of the stores working elevators, practicing proper shutdown of the elevator, as well as various rescue methods to gain access to victims.

 


 

MOTORCYCLISTS RIDE DESPITE RAIN

8/27/2006- Hundreds of motorcyclists rode through Trumbull on Sunday as a part of the annual Connecticut United Ride, which raises money for Connecticut Firefighters, Connecticut Law Enforcement, and the United Way.  The bikers' route passed by Long Hill Stations 1 and 2.  Ladder Tower 204, as well as Trumbull Center's Tower 104, provided an archway on Main Street. 


 

EASTON CALLS FOR MUTUAL AID

 

8/24/2006- At 18:00 Hours, Easton Fire Department responded to a basement fire on April Drive near the Monroe Line.  The Easton Fire Chief (Car 21) called for Long Hill to standby at Easton Fire Headquarters to cover the town.  Engine 206 with a crew of 5, and LH-2 staged at headquarters and ran a call on Tuckahoe Road for an odor in the house.

 


 

FIRES KEEP UNITS RUNNING ALL DAY LONG

 

8/12/2006- Long Hill was nice and busy this Saturday.  The day started off with a brush fire on Route 25 Southbound before the Whitney Ave overpass.  Engine 206 was first on scene and found a 10 x 10 brush fire down an embankment in the median.  206 handled the brush fire and LH-1 provided traffic support. 

 

 

Later in the day, Engine 206 transferred to Stepney station 1 for mutual aid coverage.  The town of Monroe was battling a fire at Meineke Mufflers on Route 25.  Within a half an hour of arrival, LH-2 reported a truck fire just north of station 1, and 206 went to work, extinguishing the fire, and prevented any extension to the exposures.  LH-2 was command through Monroe's Dispatch.

 

 

To end off the day, at 18:53hrs units were dispatched to Cardinal Circle for the reported garage fire in Trumbull Center's district. TC Car 4 was first on scene and reported an attached garage fully involved with extension to the house. Tower Ladder 204 responded with 5 and arrived soon after. The crew was assigned as RIT and was then sent to mop up. T-204 assisted in extinguishing the remaining fire, opened up the roof and overhauled the garage area. After about 2 hours, the ladder cleared.  LH-4 was assigned Operations, and coordinated the fire attack. (Photo Courtesy of A. Kingsbury)

 


 

LHFD GOES SHOPPING AT MACY'S FOR DRILL

8/9/2006- For Tuesday night drill, Long Hill units traveled to Westfield Shopping Town, to the former Macy's Store.  The store has been vacated and will be demolished to make room for a new anchor store.  For the first of many drills to come, firefighters were broken up into squads and were put through various search and rescue, and forcible entry scenarios.  Look for a lot more training to come out of this place...


 

PET OXYGEN MASKS DONATED TO TRUMBULL DEPARTMENTS

 

8/4/2006- Long Hill as well as the other 2 town departments and EMS received a donation of pet oxygen mask kits to be placed on the apparatus.  The kit contains a large dog mask, a small dog mask, and a cat mask.  The kits were donated by Best Friends' Pet Care, the Trumbull Woman's Club, and the Trumbull Animal Group.

 


 

ACCIDENTAL DRY CHEM DUMP LEAVES GAS STATION WHITE

 

8/1/2006- At approximately 3:15 pm, Long Hill was dispatched to the Lake and Main Citgo Station for an activated alarm.  Upon arrival, Engine 206 reported that the dry chemical system had discharged.  Upon further investigation, the activation was deemed accidental with no apparent reason for the dump.  Ladder Tower 204 also responded and was put into service upon arrival.
