CHICAGO ROCKS OUT TRUMBULL

 

7/30/2006- As a part of the Trumbull Concert Series, the hit band Chicago made a stop through Trumbull and played to a 5,000 plus crowd at Indian Ledge Park.  LHFD was on hand for fire and rescue support for the large event.  Crews on Rescue 200, Satellite 203 and Squad 209 were situated throughout the park.  LH-4 was in command at the event.

 


 

LONG HILL GETS "HANDS ON" IN BALTIMORE

 

7/26/2006- Representatives from Long Hill just got back from the FireHouse Expo, a 4 day seminar and convention in Baltimore, MD.  Several members participated in hands on classes that focused on specialized rescue, including advanced vehicle rescue (pictured on the left) as well as trench rescue.  All members participated in classroom sessions in which they will bring back what they have learned to the rest of the department to benefit from.

 


 

STATION 1 CONDUCTS CAR FIRE TRAINING

 

7/23/2006- Due to unfavorable weather conditions, Station 1's car fire drill was cancelled last Tuesday night.  Sunday's beautiful morning was a lot better, and Engine 206 and Rescue 200 took advantage of it to conduct live fire training at the town dump.  Several techniques were taught to the departments younger members including proper hose techniques, popping the hood, and breaching the trunk, as well as using portable extinguishers to fight a car fire.



 

THUNDERSTORMS END WATER RESCUE DRILL

 

7/18/2006 - Just as companies began their weekly drill a storm rolled into the area bringing heavy rains and severe thunderstorms. Long Hill received the first call in town and responded to the area of 4440 Madison Ave for a tree on a car with a possible entrapment. LH-2 and Squad 209 arrived and helped the victim from the car and cleared away the tree. After that units ran 6 more calls all weather related. Unfortunately Lt. Leos will have to wait to instruct his Fortuna aquatics rescue class until next week.



 

CLOSE CALL IN BASEMENT ON KOGER ROAD


7/15/06- At 6:35 PM, Long Hill was toned out for a fire in the basement on Koger Road.  LH-2 was first on scene and reported a moderate smoke condition in the basement.  He reported the fire was knocked down with a dry chem extinguisher by the homeowner prior to fire department arrival.  It was believed that a towel fell on a light and caught fire.  E-206, and T-204 provided ventilation to the basement.  LH-1 was command.



LONG HILL PROVIDES SUPPORT IN CAR FIRE

7/14/06- At 8 AM, Long Hill was dispatched as mutual aid to Route 25, southbound at Exit 6 for a fully involved car fire.  E-206 responded and provided traffic support to Trumbull Center Engine 103 and also helped with mop up.



 

EARLY MORNING EXTRICATION

 

7/7/06- At 4:10 AM, Long Hill and Trumbull Center responded to the Merritt Parkway Northbound at Exit 49-N for a car vs. tree with entrapment.  First due units reported a single occupant trapped.  Rescue 200, Engine 205, Squad 209, LH-2, and LH-3, as well as Trumbull Center Rescue 100, TC Car 2, and TC Car 4 all assisted in patient removal.
