OVERHEATED BATTERIES START FIRE IN BACK OF TRUCK

 

11/30/2006- At 0900, Long Hill was dispatched to the area of 140 Monroe Turnpike for a reported truck fire. First arriving units reported an electrical contractors box van with a moderate smoke condition coming from the cargo area but no visible fire. Units began searching for the source of the smoke and found fire in between the plywood and fiberglass body of the truck. Electrical wiring that was charging numerous batteries for cordless equipment had caught on fire and was smoldering behind the plywood.  Units were able to open and expose the fire and extinguished it quickly. Units were placed BIS about 15 minutes later. Units on scene were E-206, Trumbull Center E-103, LH-3, and LH-4. (Photo Courtesy of A. Rauso)

LONG HILL RUNS MUTUAL AID TO STEPNEY

 

11/16/2006- At approximately 11:50, Long Hill was called in special mutual aid to Stepney for a working structure fire.  LH-22 and Engine 205 responded to 27 Maple Drive and were assigned RIT.  After the fire was put under control, the Long Hill crew assisted with overhaul and checking for extension.  LH-22 was assigned Long Hill Division per Command.

LONG HILL BEGINS ELEVATOR & ESCALATOR RESCUE TRAINING

 

11/14/2006- Tuesday nights drill kicked off a 3 night combination classroom/ hands on training in elevator and escalator rescue.  Training is being provided by Dragon Rescue Management, and tonight's class was a classroom session for basic elevator operation, and elevator rescue techniques taught by Michael Dragonetti and Andy Werkhoven.  The next part of the class will be hands on elevator rescue techniques, which will take place on November 28th. 

 


 

GAS LEAK EVACUATES NEIGHBORHOOD

 

11/8/2006- Units responded to 29 Nokomis road for a reported gas leak. LH-4 arrived on scene and reported a natural gas leak outside of a structure below the meter.  Crews went to work stretching multiple protection lines and evacuating nearby homes. The gas company arrived on scene and eventually was able to stop the leak. Once the leak was contained crews metered nearby residences and gave the all clear for residents to return the their homes. Units were on scene for just under 2 hours. Units o/s LH-1, LH-2, LH-3, LH-4, E-206, S-209, E-205, R-200, L-204 and Trumbull Center E-103.  LH-3 was command.

 


 

FIVE NEW 25 YEAR MEMBERS HONORED AT OLD TIMERS NIGHT

11/4/2006- This Saturday, Long Hill held its annual Old Timers Night at the Stone Barn in Monroe.  The history of the LHFD was in full force at the dinner which honored five new 25 year members to its ranks.  Richard Balestrieri, Tracy Lee, Pat Moran, Steve Pelak, and Gary Pomerenk were honored with 25 year pins.  

 


 

EXTRICATION ON MAIN STREET AT SPRING HILL ROAD

 

11/2/2006- At approximately 0745 hours Long Hill was dispatched to Route 25 @ Spring Hill Road for a motor vehicle accident possible extrication. Units arrived on scene to find a two car accident with one person trapped. Squad 209 was first truck on scene and quickly went to work, forcing the driver's side door to free the victim. The victim was placed in the hands of Trumbull EMS. Both vehicles involved were stabilized and a minor fluid spill was controlled. Other units operating on scene were Engine 205, Trumbull Center Engine 102, Nichols Rescue 300, Nichols Car 2 and Trumbull Car 1. Units were all back in service in under an hour.  Trumbull Car 1 was command.

 


 

ROLLOVER ON MERRITT PARKWAY

 

11/1/2006- At 1100 Long Hill was dispatched to Route 15 Southbound between exits 48 and 49 for a reported MVA rollover.  LH-3 was first on scene, took command, and reported a vehicle on the side of the road with a single occupant with minor injuries.  Engine 205 and Squad 209 stabilized the vehicle, cleaned up a minor fluid spill and awaited the wrecker.
