2 MVA's & AN ELECTRICAL FIRE MAKE FOR A BUSY SATURDAY

10/21/2006- At approximately 1645 hours, Nichols, Trumbull Center and Long Hill were dispatched to Route 15 in the area of exit 49 for a reported MVA rollover.  LH-1 was first to arrive and found a single vehicle accident at exit 52 southbound.  With confirmation of trapped victim, Rescue 300 and Rescue 100 went to work stabilizing the vehicle and removing the victim in under 15 minutes.  The victim was placed in the care of Trumbull EMS

 

During the course of the MVA, Long Hill was dispatched to Ring Road, inside 5065 Main Street, Westfield Shopping Town, for an MVA with a car smoking.  Squad 209 and Engine 206 responded and stabilized the vehicle.

 

At 1721 hours, Long Hill was dispatched to Westfield Shopping Town for an activated fire alarm.  Engine 206 was freed from the MVA and responded.  Before arrival, 206 received an update from Mall Security reporting heavy smoke inside Door 1.  E-206 arrived at door 1 and immediately was met with smoke in the main corridor coming from the "As Seen on TV" Store.  Structure Fire Protocol was initiated bringing Trumbull Center, Nichols, and Trumbull EMS.  E-206's crew investigated further and found a a fire in a ceiling air unit and quickly extinguished the electrical fire.  Once Ladder 204 and 206 were finished overhauling, command (LH-3) held Long Hill units who turned their attention to smoke removal.  Units ventilated the area using several fans and were on scene for an hour and a half. ACTIVATED ALARM AT HIGH SCHOOL TURNS INTO TRASH FIRE

 

10/19/2006- Around 1200, Trumbull Center, Long Hill, and Nichols were dispatched to Trumbull High School for an activated fire alarm.  An update from security guards on scene reported a trash can fire in a 2nd floor bathroom.  Squad 209 arrived first and took it's crew to the 2nd floor with Nichols Car 2.  Crews extinguished the can with an extinguisher. 209 and 301 handled the removal of smoke and the trash can.  Units on scene were 209, 301, 103, 102, Nichols Car 2 and LH-3.  Units returned to service in about an hour.  LH-3 was command.

 


 

SCHOOL BUS MVA

 

10/16/2006- At 3:20 PM, Long Hill was called to Main Street in the area of Lake Avenue for a motor vehicle accident.  Trumbull Center Car 2 was first on scene, took command, and reported a multiple vehicle accident involving an empty school bus.  Rescue 200 stabilized the vehicle, and applied speedy dry to a fluid spill.  Engine 201, LH-3, and TC Car 1 were also on scene. ELEVATOR ENTRAPMENT AT TOWN HALL

 

10/12/2006- At around 7:00 AM Long Hill was dispatched to Trumbull Town Hall for an activated fire alarm.  Units on scene found a moderate smoke condition on the 1st floor, caused by a burnt out motor in the elevator mechanical room.  The burnt out motor also caused the elevator to stall between floors and a delivery person had to be rescued.  Units on scene were Squad 209, Engine 201, Tower Ladder 204, Nichols Engine 301, and Trumbull Center Engine 103, who took in an additional Long Hill alarm on Oakland Drive while units were operating at Town Hall.  LH-3 was command. EXTRICATION AT ROUTE 25 & MAIN STREET

 

10/11/2006- At 11:08 Hours, units were dispatched to Route 25 & Main Street for a Motor Vehicle Accident with a fluid spill.  Engine 201, which had just cleared a fire prevention detail was first on scene and reported a head on collision with multiple injuries and 1 victim still pinned.  Rescue 200 and Squad 209 also responded and units worked together to extricate the patient, assist EMS with the other victims, and clean up a 5 gallon gasoline spill.  The MVA caused a traffic nightmare when the busy intersection was shut down for 30 to 40 minutes.  Local and State PD assisted with the traffic mess.  Units were clear in about 45 minutes.  LH-3 was command.

 


 

LH-22 CALLS IN EXTRICATION

 

10/10/2006- Just after 21:00 Hours, LH-22 came upon the scene of a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Main Street at Park Lane.  Rescue 200 responded and extricated the driver to awaiting EMS units.  The crew also cleaned up a fluid spill and secured all the hazards.

 


 

ANNUAL RODEO COMPETITION

 

10/10/2006- LHFD held its annual rodeo competition tonight at the former Macy's building in the Westfield Shopping Town.  The 3 stations were pitted against each

other in various skill events, and the station at the end with the best times was the winner.  This years events included search and rescue in a large scale area, stand pipe operations, hose line advancement, and the "midnight alarm", where newer members had to don their bunker gear and breathing apparatus while climbing 3 floors, stopping at each floor to add additional equipment.  When all was said and done, Station 2 took this years trophy by 30 seconds over Station 3, with Station 1 close behind.  The competition was also interrupted by a fire alarm and an extrication.

 


 

SQUAD 209 ATTENDS PUBLIC SAFETY DAY

 

10/8/2006- Today the Westfield Shopping Town of Trumbull held a public safety day.  Squad 209, Trumbull Center Tower 104 and Nichols Engine 301 attended as well as Trumbull EMS, Trumbull PD and other various police departments from the surrounding towns.  All units were on hand to show the public the vehicles from their departments and the different equipment each one carries.  The highlight of the day was a visit from the Connecticut State Police "Trooper One" helicopter with landed in the mall parking lot and was on hand for people to look inside.  After 4 hours of interacting witht he public, Squad 209 returned to quarters. ACTIVATED ALARM TURNS INTO POTENTIAL WORKING FIRE

 

10/3/2006- At around 12:30 AM Long Hill was dispatched to the Long Hill Administration building on Main Street for an activated fire alarm.  LH-3 was first on scene and performed an interior investigation with Squad 209.  The crew was met with a smoke condition and a smell of something burning.  LH-3 advised command of the situation, and command activated working fire dispatch, bringing mutual aid from Trumbull Center, RIT from Nichols, and Trumbull EMS on standby.  Engine 206 took the hydrant.  Upon further investigation, Ladder 204's crew found burning computer components in the IT room of the building.  The halon system was also activated.  Crews ventilated and returned to service just after 2 AM.  LH-4 was command.

 


 

LIVE BURN: MAIN STREET PRIOR TO RTE 25

 

10/1/2006- At 0800, units traveled to a house on Route 111, between Gisella Road and Route 25 for a live burn exercise.  The house was to be torn down and was donated to the department to burn.  The fire was lit just after 0830, and the house was down just a few hours later. LONG HILL PROVIDES SUPPORT IN AERIAL LIFT

 

10/1/2006- At approximately 0700, units from Long Hill provided fire support at the Westfield Shopping Town.  Construction crews were installing a new 4,000 pound AC unit on the rooftop, which needed to be lifted via helicopter.  A Sikorsky S-61N landed in the Macy's parking lot, rigged up its lifting cable, hovered over the new unit to attach it, and then brought the AC unit to the rooftop.  The helicopter was based out of Michigan, and had come from a job in Washington D.C.  It has a lifting capability of 10,000 pounds.
