ROLLOVER ON ROUTE 15

 

9/30/2006- At 2:40 pm, Long Hill was dispatched to the Merritt Parkway at the Main Street onramp for a motor vehicle accident, rollover.  LH-1 was first on scene to report a single vehicle on its roof with no entrapment.  Engine 205 assisted with patient care and traffic.  LH-4 was command.

 


 

GAS LEAK EVACUATES NEIGHBORHOOD

 

9/29/2006- At approximately 0930 hours Long Hill with mutual aid from Trumbull Center were dispatched to the area of 23 Oschner Place for a large gas leak. LH-3 and Ladder 204 quickly arrived on scene to find a construction crew who had hit an underground gas line in the street venting natural gas throughout the neighborhood. Squad 209's crew arrived and deployed protection lines for the gas company who shut down the leak. Ladder 204, Engine 205 and Trumbull Center Engine 103 evacuated houses, and after the leak was contained with the assistance of the gas company metered all houses in the immediate area as a precaution. Once the gas company had the leak shut and residences were metered and deemed safe, all units returned to service.

ROLLOVER AT RTE 25 & RTE 111 CREATES TRAFFIC MESS

 

9/23/2006- On Saturday, Long Hill was dispatched to Route 25 and Route 111 for a Motor Vehicle Accident.  Rescue 200 was first on scene and reported a Jeep Grand Cherokee on its roof, with no victims trapped.  LH-1 and Squad 209 were also on scene, and R-200 remained on scene until the wrecker righted the vehicle.  LH-13 was command.

 


 

GARBAGE TRUCK ROLLS ON SPRING HILL ROAD

9/21/2006- At approximately 09:30 Long Hill was dispatched to in front of 101 Spring Hill Rd, The Trumbull Transfer Station for a reported garbage truck rollover. LH-22 and 24 arrived to find a garbage truck on it's side with all occupants out and a minor fluid spill. Squad 209 handled stabilizing the vehicle and all fluid leaks before being assigned to another call. LH-22 and 24 stood by on scene until the dump truck was removed by the wrecker. LH-3 was command. TOWER RESCUE DRILLS AND CAR FIRES

9/19/2006- Tuesday night's drill was a split drill,  which sent Station 3 to the Town Transfer Station for car fire drills, and Station 1 and 2 to the former Macy's for Tower Ladder Rescue Operations.  Units at Macy's reviewed patient packaging using a stokes basket, proper ways to secure the stokes to the bucket of 204, and finally bucket operations for use in patient rescue.


 

SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT GAS DONATES TO LHFD

9/14/2006- The Long Hill Fire Department was the recipient of a Sked-Evac Confined Space Rescue System, that was donated from the Southern Connecticut Gas Co. on Thursday night. Past Fire District Commissioner Thomas Trotta, who retired from Southern as Executive Vice President – Chief Operating Officer, was the honoree of this donation. Mr. Trotta worked for Southern Connecticut Gas for 45 years, and served as a Fire District Commissioner for 14 years. 

 

Mr. John Dobus, Southern's Manager of Public Affairs, who presented the donation to the department, explained Mr. Trotta’s commitment to his family, his job and to his community, and this was a token of their appreciation.

 

Mr. Ray Baldwin, Trumbull’s First Selectman, also presented Mr. Trotta with a stenciled drawing of the town hall featuring the statue of Governor Jonathan Trumbull. Mr. Baldwin also praised Mr. Trotta for his volunteerism, contributions, and leadership to the Long Hill Fire District and the town.

 

The Confined Space Rescue System is used in high angle rescue situations, and includes a tripod, harnesses, and a 4 to 1 pulley system.

 


 

GOVERNOR CHOOSES TRUMBULL TO ANNOUNCE PROCLAMATION

 

"I will go on the road to visit some of the state's finest first responders to shake their hands, look them straight in the eyes and say 'thank you'.  The fact is we owe our first responders our sincere appreciation and a debt of gratitude for their selfless acts and tireless efforts in protecting Connecticut families 24 hours a day and 365 days a year.  Declaring First Responders Day is my way of urging the people of this great state to join me in saying 'thank you' to firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians and others for the courage, bravery and dedication they demonstrate each and everyday on our behalf. First responders are true heroes. For that, we are forever grateful. Unfortunately, we do not say it enough." -Governor Jodi Rell

 

9/14/2006- Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell visited Trumbull today to announce a proclamation that September 14, 2006 is First Responders Day in Connecticut.  Visiting 3 towns today, Gov. Rell made Trumbull one of her stops.  Government officials, police officials and representatives from the town's 3 fire departments assembled at Trumbull Center Station 1 to greet the Governor. 

 


 

VEHICLE ACCIDENT DRILL HELPS SHARPEN SKILLS

 

9/12/2006- Tuesday night's drill was vehicle extrication.  Units were staged up the road and brought down one at a time to simulate a 2 car motor vehicle accident on a highway.  Squad 209 was first due, made a 1st in assessment, and took command.  Engine 205 provided an attack line for protection, and Rescue 200 was last in, providing extra cribbing and rescue tools.  Units worked quickly and safely to remove the 2 victims (training dummies) which were wedged in the wreckage.

 


 

SUNDAY DRIVE TURNS INTO CAR FIRE

 

9/3/2006- At approximately 4:48 PM Long Hill was dispatched to Route 25 southbound, prior to exit 9 for a possible car fire.  LH-4 was first on scene, took command, and reported a single vehicle with the engine compartment well off.  Rescue 200 knocked down the fire quickly and waited on scene for the wrecker.  LH-2 and Engine 206 were also on scene. 

 


 

SEPTEMBER STARTS OFF WITH A ROLLOVER

 

9/1/2006- September got off to an early 1 AM start, with units from Long Hill and Trumbull Center responding to Whitney Ave and Lewis Rd for a single car MVA/rollover.  Trumbull Car 2 was first on scene and reported a single vehicle on its roof, no extrication needed.  Units on scene were Rescue 200, LH-1, LH-4, TC Engine 103, TC Car 2, and TC Car 4.  Both occupants were transported, and TC Car 2 was command.
