SHED FIRE IN THE CENTER

 

7/30/2007-  At 7:02, Trumbull Center was dispatched to Southern Connecticut Gas on Lindeman Drive for the reported shed smoking.  Trumbull Car 3 was first on scene and reported a 8 x 12 storage shed with smoke showing.  TC Car 3 established command and asked for a re-tone with structure fire protocol.  Truck 304 responded from Nichols as RIT and Squad 209 responded from the Hill.  The storage shed housed the backflow preventer for the incoming water supply to the complex. The backflow preventer was heat traced and insulated as to prevent freezing during the winter months.  The fire was contained to the insulation and minimally to the structure.  Engine 101 knocked down the fire with tank water.  S-209 assisted on scene.
 


 

PLYMOUTH AVE DUMPSTER FIRE

 

7/27/2007- At 12:50, Long Hill was dispatched to Plymouth Avenue for a reported dumpster fire.  LH-2 was first on scene and reported a 12 yard dumpster that was well off, and in close proximity of the structure.  LH-3, Squad 209, and Engine 205 quickly extinguished the dumpster using foam.  Units were clear in under 40 minutes.  LH-2 was command. LH-3, RESCUE 200 HANDLE FLUID SPILL ON THE PARKWAY

 

7/24/2007- At 12:34, Long Hill was dispatched to Route 15 Northbound at exit 49 for the MVA fluid spill.  LH-3 was first on scene, took command and confirmed a 2 car MVA. Rescue 200 arrived and mitigated the spilled fluids.  Squad 209 stood by on the Main St. Ramp. (Photo courtesy of A. Rauso)

 


 

GATOR 1 RESPONDS TO THE VALLEY

 

7/24/2007- At around 11:00 hrs, Long Hill was requested to assist Trumbull EMS in the Pequannock Valley for a reported man down. LH-23 and LH-20, along with additional members, responded with Gator 1. Upon arrival, units  met with the Paramedic, loaded some additional EMS equipment, and responded into the valley. After about a ten minute ride into the valley, units met with park rangers and other EMS units already on scene and began packaging the patient. Once the patient was packaged, Gator 1 transported the patient out to a waiting ambulance while the Paramedic and an EMT rode along and continued patient care. Units were clear in a little more than a half hour.

 

Gator 1 is a John Deere Gator all terrain Vehicle that's was purchased through a Homeland Security Grant.  It is owned by the Town of Trumbull and operated by the Long Hill Fire Department in cooperation with the Department of Emergency Management.

 


 

AVALON GATES KITCHEN FIRE

 

7/23/2007- At 15:18 hrs, Trumbull Center, Nichols and Long Hill were dispatched to  Avalon Gates for an oven fire that was reported out. LH-2, LH-3 and Nichols Car 3 were first arriving, finding heavy smoke in an apartment unit on the first floor. Upon entering the structure, units discovered the fire was not completely out and worked to extinguish fire in and around the oven area. Crews from Engine 301 and Ladder-Tower 204 extinguished the remaining fire, checked for extension on all 3 floors and ventilated. Engine 101 stood by at the hydrant. The Red Cross was also requested due to the damage in the apartment. LH-3 had command.
 


 

ONE REMOVED FROM ROLLOVER ACCIDENT

 

7/18/2007- At 18:02hrs, Long Hill was dispatched to Main Street & Whitney Ave for the reported rollover. LH-2 arrived first and reported a 2 car MVA, with one car on its side. Upon further investigation, it was reported that one driver out of the vehicle and was being treated by Trumbull EMS, while the second driver was trapped in the car on its side. Squad 209, Rescue 200 and LH-1 stabilized the vehicle, cut the power and prepared to extricate. The 2 back seats were moved to gain access to the patient. Once the patients legs were freed from under the dash board she was removed out the rear of the SUV and into the care of AMR. Units cleared about 40 minutes later.
 


 

ROLLOVER ON THE MERRITT

 

7/3/2007- At 13:56, Long Hill was dispatched to Route 15 Northbound between exits 48 & 49 for a MVA rollover. LH-2 and LH-3 arrived on scene first and reported one car on its roof with all occupants out but two injuries. Squad 209 arrived and assisted Trumbull EMS with patient care and handled all hazards.
