. JUNE '10 NEWS MVA CAUSES FLUID SPILL
6/29/2010- At
15:05hrs, Long Hill was alerted to the intersection of Main St and Tashua
Rd for the MVA Fluid Spill. Rescue 200 handled the call and applied
speedy-dry to the fluids down on the road and waited on scene for the
wrecker to arrive and take the vehicle. Rescue 200 was back in service in
about 30 minutes.
LH ASSISTS BRIDGEPORT AS TORNADO RIPS THROUGH CITY
6/24/2010- Squad 209 responded to Bridgeport Headquarters to standby for manpower due to a heavy storm that passed through the area & sent a tornado ripping through the downtown area. Units from Echo Hose, Huntington, Milford, Fairfield, Westport & Stratford also responded to assist the BFD. During this storm aftermath, Long Hill units responded to numerous calls in their own district.
NEW RESCUE PROGRESS PHOTOS
6/22/2010- The new Rescue 200 is in thefinal stages of production. The replacement truck is being manufactured by Marion Body Works located in Marion, WI. We will post more pictures and info as we receive it from the manufacturer.
DRYER FIRE ON KILLIAN AVE
6/21/2010- At
14:45hrs, Long Hill, with
Trumbull Center Mutual Aid, was
dispatched to Killian Ave for a dryer fire. Squad 209 arrived first and
stretched a handline to the front door. Engine 103 was 2nd due and laid a
supply line from the hydrant at Main St and Killian Ave. Squad 209 and LH2
were able to knock the fire down with a water can. Engine 206 checked for
extension on the exterior of the structure and assisted crews with
ventilation. LH-3 had command. T-204 was also on scene. All units were
clear from the scene in about an hour.
HEAVY RESCUE TRAINING
6/15/2010- At Tuesday nights drill, the members of the Long Hill FD conducted Heavy Rescue training led by Instructor's Frank Novak and Steve Pekar. The scenario involved a 2 door passenger car that had been involved in an accident with a 6 wheel dump truck. The dump truck came to rest on top of the vehicle. The members worked with many different tools to attempt to free the passenger in the vehicle and successfully completed the scenario. Special thanks to Deputy Chief Bogen for assisting with the set up.
CEILING COLLAPSES IN FOOD COURT
6/4/2010- At 11:07hrs, Long Hill, Trumbull Center & Nichols were dispatched to Westfield Shopping Center for a ceiling collapse in the food court. The collapse was in an area which is undergoing major renovations. Crews arrived & found the ceiling in Taco Bell had collapsed. No one was injured in the accident & crews checked surrounding areas for structural damage. Squad 209 remained on scene awaiting Trumbull Building & Health officials. Squad 209 cleared at approximately 14:45hrs. Units on scene were Long Hill E-206, E-205, E-202, LH-2, Trumbull Center R-100, E-102, and Nichols R-300 & N-2.
