FIRE ON STOVE TURNS INTO STRUCTURE FIRE

 

3/31/2010- At 17:34hrs, Long Hill & Trumbull Center were dispatched to Natalie Drive for the reported stove fire.  LH-2 responded and dispatch updated the initial report to fire showing from a window per Trumbull PD on scene. Based on this report, structure fire protocol was put into effect, adding Nichols as the RIT team.

 

LH-2 was first to arrive and found heavy fire showing from the front windows as well as heavy fire from the rear of the structure. Engine 202 stretched a line to the front door and made entry. Shortly after, Engine 102 arrived and stretched the back-up line to the front door and also assisted hand stretching a line to the hydrant to set up a water supply for E-202. Truck 204 arrived and performed ventilation on the roof while Squad 209 performed the primary search. Truck 304 provided RIT.

 

The main body of fire was knocked down in 20 minutes and crews remained on scene for overhaul. Other units on scene were TC-1, TC-2, N-3, S-203, E-205, LH-1, and Trumbull EMS. LH-2 had command.

RESCUE 200 ASSISTS ON ROUTE 25 EXTRICATION

 

3/30/2010- At 21:15hrs Trumbull Center & Long Hill were dispatched to Route 25 southbound in the area of exit 6 for the reported motor vehicle accident with extrication.  Trumbull Car 2 was first on scene and reported a single vehicle involved with one trapped occupant.  Crews from Rescue 100, Rescue 200, Engine 102 & Engine 103 worked to extricate the victim into the hands of the waiting ambulance crew.  Trumbull Car 1 as well as LH-1 & 4 were also on scene assisting crews.  Trumbull Car 2 was command.

 


 

HAZ-MAT TRAINING

 

3/23/2010- For tonight's drill, Long Hill members went through a hazardous materials refresher with Bruce Kelly of the Fairfield County Haz-Mat Team. The first part of the drill was held 2 weeks ago in a classroom setting.  For tonight's drill, firefighters were given an overview of the Haz-Mat response vehicle & the equipment held on it.  The second part of the drill was setting up a decontamination station & the proper steps to decontaminate personnel coming out of a hot zone at an incident.  Lastly everyone practiced the removal of contaminated gear & the proper steps to not contaminate yourself or the clothing underneath your turnout gear. The Fairfield County Haz-Mat Team is comprised of 75+ Hazardous Material Technicians from the 15 towns it covers in Fairfield County. They are available to respond 24/7 to any hazardous material incidents in our town upon our request.

 


 

UNITS TACKLE BRUSH FIRE BEHIND OLD MINE PARK

 

3/19/2010- At 18:00 hrs, Long Hill was dispatched to Caldron Drive for the reported brush fire.  On arrival firefighters were met with a 2 to 2.5 acre fire on the top of the ridge in Old Mine Park.  Crews from Engine 206, Engine 205 and Squad 209 cut a fire line with rakes to cut off the head of the fire.  Stevenson FD Brush 310 was requested as mutual aid to assist in operations. Once the fire line was finished,  Indian Guns were used to mop up the fire. Operations finished up around 20:30.
 


 

UPDATED RESCUE PHOTOS SHOWS OFF BODY

 

 

3/19/2010- The new Rescue 200 is well into production and the body is starting to take shape.  The replacement truck is being manufactured by Marion Body Works located in Marion, WI.  We will post more pictures and info as we receive it from the manufacturer. GAS STATION SPILL

 

3/15/2010- At 20:13hrs, Long Hill was dispatched to Gene's Automotive located on Main Street for the reported fluid spill.  LH-1 was first on scene and reported 25+ gallons of gasoline covering the stations asphalt.  Crews from Squad 209, Engine 205 and Satellite 203 mitigated the spill by applying oil dry and blocking waterways and stood by on scene until DEP arrived.
