.NOVEMBER '10 NEWS BRUSH FIRE COMES CLOSE TO BEING BOAT FIRE
11/29/2010- At 16:50hrs , Long Hill was dispatched to a report of a brush fire in the rear of the residence on Sally Ann Dr. LH-2 was first in reporting a large column of black smoke coming from the back of the house. Further investigation found a 30x30 ft area was burning about 10 ft from a boat in the backyard. A trash line was pulled from Engine 205 and fire was extinguished quickly. Squad 209's crew set up the pro pack and applied foam to the area. Units packed up and cleared in about 30 minutes.
LONG HILL TAKES 4 AWARDS IN WALLINGTON, NJ PARADE
11/27/2010- The Long Hill Volunteer Fire Co.1 Inc. participated in the 2010 Wallington Fire Department's Holiday Parade in Wallington, NJ. The parade is the largest in the nation, with over 300 lighted/decorated fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles. The members brought Satellite 203 with all its lights and decorations and for the 2nd year in a row, took home 4 trophies. The Fire Company won awards for Best Decorated Special Unit (1st Place), Best Decorated Apparatus for out of state (2nd Place), Farthest Distance Traveled (2nd Place) and Best Decorated Chief's Vehicle (2nd Place). Congratulations to the members of the Fire Company for all their hard work and dedication. Great job all!
CHRISTMAS LIGHT SHOW IS NOW RUNNING AT STATION 3
11/26/2010- At 18:00hrs, Station 3 was lit up to start the holiday season and many events to come for the LHFD. This years light show will run from 5pm to 11pm every night. When viewing the show, please tune your radio dials to 100.7fm to listen the music that corresponds with the show.
THANKSGIVING BASEMENT FIRE
11/25/2010- At 12:19hrs, Long Hill, Trumbull Center & Nichols as the RIT company were dispatched to Kingston Road for the possible basement fire. LH-2 was first on scene & reported smoke coming from the eaves. Engine 206 was first apparatus on scene & stretched a hose line to the basement to extinguish the fire. Units were able to contain the fire to the basement & were able to extinguish the fire quickly. Other units responding were L-204, S-209, E-205, E-202, R-200, E-103, Q-303, E-301, LH-1 (command), LH-4, N Car 3 & TC Car 1. The incident was under control at 12:55hrs. The Fire Marshall's office is investigating the cause.
LONG HILL DELIVERS SANTA TO MALL'S LIGHTING CEREMONY
11/19/2010- In it's first appearance of the season, Satellite 203 made its grand debut at the Westfield Shoppingtown's opening of the newly renovated areas & holiday decoration lighting. The truck will be all over town this holiday season but if you want to guarantee an up close look, the truck will be at the following locations:

11/18/2010- Last holiday Season, author Diane Smith spent a night delivering toys with members of the Long Hill Fire Company at our annual Toy Delivery. This holiday season she has written and released "A Connecticut Christmas", a book highlighting what its like in Connecticut around Christmas time. The Long Hill Fire Department is a part of this book, featuring a photo of Satellite 203 and an excerpt explaining how we make Christmas enjoyable in our town. The book is published by Globe Pequot Press and is on sale at local book stores and Amazon.
TRUMBULL CENTER TRAINS ON NEW RESCUE
11/18/2010-
Tonight, members of the Long Hill FD staffed Rescue 200 and traveled down
to Trumbull Center FD for a combined training session. The members of the
LHFD provided a tour of the new Rescue 200. Once all the members of the
TCFD were familiar with the layout of the new vehicle, everyone assembled
in the parking lot behind Trumbull Center Station 1 and worked on 2
vehicles to become familiar with the new equipment. Thank you to the
members of the LHFD and TCFD who made this night a success.
LONG HILL ASSISTS IN SEARCH & RESCUE EFFORT
11/17/2010- At 11:02hrs, Long Hill was dispatched with Trumbull Center & Nichols to Lindberg Drive for a missing person with possible water rescue. Multiple agencies & resources from in town & area towns including dive teams, search dogs & station coverage were used in the effort. From the Hill, Squad 209, Truck 208, Rescue 200, LH-1 & LH-4 were on scene. Units were back in service by 12:30hrs.
FIRE COMPANY HONORS 2 NEWEST "OLD TIMERS"
11/6/2010- Tonight the Long Hill Fire Company #1, Inc. held its annual Old Timers Night at the Stone Barn Restaurant in Monroe. 2 members were honored tonight, both reaching 25 years of service. Past Assistant Chief John Delvento (pictured center) and current Chief Peter Rousso (pictured right) were both given their 25 year pins by President Frank Novak (pictured left) and are now considered Life Members. Congratulations Pete & Johnny!
LADDER, 2 ENGINES ASSIST WITH SKATE RINK & GUN RANGE FIRE
11/3/2010- At 10:30hrs, the Stepney Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at the Monroe Indoor Shooting Range and Skate Tyme on Main Street. Stepney immediately called for mutual aid from Long Hill and Engine 206, Ladder 204, Squad 209 and LH-3 all responded to assist.
On arrival crews were assigned to assist with suppression operations as well as water supply. L-204 went to work with aerial operations along with Stepney Truck 100, Monroe Quint 200 and Newtown Hook and Ladder. 204 worked to extinguish heavy fire for 4 hours. E-206's crew assisted 204's crew with suppression operations.
S-209 was
assigned to water supply and was sent to a river for drafting operations.
209 supplied water from the river to portable ponds and ladder crews for
fire suppression. All Long Hill personnel were on scene for over 5 hours.
LONG HILL GOES TO MONROE; ASSISTS WITH BARN FIRE
11/1/2010- At 12:14hrs, the Monroe Fire Dept called for Mutual Aid to 349 Elm Street for a structure fire. Squad 209 responded to the scene with 5 personnel and arrived to find a large barn fire which was mostly extinguished. Crews from 209 assisted with overhaul and wet down. Crews were returned to service in 1 hour.
