TENNIS CLUB OF TRUMBULL COLLAPSES

2/1/2011- At 19:35hrs, Long Hill, Trumbull Center & Nichols were alerted to 61 Monroe Turnpike, Tennis Club of Trumbull, for the building collapse. LH-3 was first on scene and reported a large structural collapse with a heavy odor of natural gas. Squad 209 arrived and pulled a protection line.  Separate water supplies were established to 209 and Ladder 204, with the help of a State DOT pay loader, which cleared snow around hydrants. Both 209 & 204 attempted to shut off the gas, but were unable to do so due to the side of the structure being compromised. Southern CT Gas Company worked to dig through the snow and find the shut off valve. After about five hours, the has company was able to shut the gas to the building and the incident was placed under control. (Photos courtesy of R. Southard)
